Eloise White Libby

Eloise White Libby, aged 92, passed away on March 9, 2015, at Des Arc, Arkansas. She was born November 10, 1922, in Calhoun County, Arkansas, near Hampton, to Kenneth Malcolm White and Mary Madeline White. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, John Manson Libby (Lt. Commander, USN, retired); one brother, Linual A. White; one sister, Nina Nony; and her best friend, Jewell Carlock. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Jane Libby of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Barbara Libby Abney (Robert) of Des Arc, Arkansas; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Abney Caldwell (Aaron), and Melissa Abney Turpin (Chase) of Bentonville. She also leaves three special friends, Joyce Hendricks, Johnie Mae Siitonen, and Ernestine DeVorak. Eloise Libby was a sixth-generation Arkansan. Upon her graduation from Pine Bluff High School in 1940, she was employed as a decoder for the United States Navy in Memphis, Tennessee, where she met her husband, John M. Libby. After marriage she was a Navy wife and homemaker, living in many ports. Upon her husband's retirement, she worked with him in their real estate firm in Fort Smith, Arkansas, until moving to a farm in south Sebastian County in 1973. After her husband's death in 1995, she moved to Des Arc, Arkansas, where she lived until entering assisted living in Searcy, Arkansas, in 2008. Eloise loved genealogy and was a member of several organizations related to history and family research. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Des Arc, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held at Garth's Funeral Home in Des Arc on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
