Richard Allen Smith, 55, of Suffield, Connecticut passed away at his home on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Richard was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on June 13, 1959. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tena L. Smith; three sons, Ryan W. Smith and wife Alyssa of Enfield, Connecticut, Kyle A. Smith and Eric J. Smith both of Suffield, Connecticut; mother, Margaret Phillips of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sisters, Micki Smith of Roland, Arkansas and Julie Warme of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Richard is preceded in death by his stepfather, James W. Phillips. He grew up in Beebe, Arkansas attending both Beebe Elementary and Beebe High School. Richard worked for Motion Industries of South Windsor, Connecticut, an industrial distributor, in sales and service. He took great pride in his position. While growing up in Beebe, he participated in numerous athletic programs including track, baseball, and basketball. Richard was a huge fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Boston Red Socks, Bostic Celtics, and UCONN Basketball. He was involved for many years with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Master. Richard served the Suffield, Connecticut Emergency Aid Center, working with the Meals on Wheels Program for the local residents. Being an avid handyman, he enjoyed working in and around his home, and was rather resourceful and creative. Richard was a very devoted and loving husband and father. He had a great sense of humor and a compassionate spirit. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut, 06112. Family will receive friends Friday March 13, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe with Graveside service to follow at 11:15 a.m. at Antioch Cemetery.
