Lawrence Williams "Larry" Berkley

Lawrence Williams "Larry" Berkley, aged 64, passed away on March 7, 2015. He was born in Dallas, Texas to Howard and Elizabeth Berkley. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children, Megan (Joe and Ellie Kate) Daniels, Kimberly (Scott and Alex) Kaczenski, Timothy Berkley and Justin Wessels; and by his siblings, Dutch and Richard Berkley and Mary, Brad and Bill Hulett. Larry grew up in Columbia, Mo. where he graduated from Hickman High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees in Medical Physics from the University of Missouri. Following graduation he worked at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Then moving to Little Rock, Ark., he worked and served as CARTI's Vice President of Medical Physics, Engineering and Information Services for 28 years. Larry was dedicated to ensuring the highest quality and radiation safety for the staff and patients. Larry loved aviation. He received his pilot's license and served on the Jacksonville Air Force Base Community Council. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America Quapaw Area Council, and was a well-respected board member of the Little Rock School District for 12 years, including a term as President. His goal was to design a system that would work for the success of every child in Little Rock. After retiring to Fairfield Bay in 2013, he became President of the Indian Hills Golf Association and a member of the EMS Squad. He was also a volunteer tutor at Shirley Elementary and an accomplished trumpeter and pianist. Larry loved golf, tennis, the lake and traveling with his family. A memorial is planned at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
