Wayne Zelbra Hency, 90, of Berryville, Ark. passed peacefully at home in his sleep, Wednesday, March 11, 2015. He was born May 13, 1924 to Jesse Pearl and Lillian Hency. He was united in marriage June 15, 1944 to Dorthena Worley who preceded him in death in January 2009. Born and raised in Clantonville, Arkansas, Wayne was a lifelong resident of Northwest Arkansas. He grew up as many did in that era, of very modest means, developing and valuing the importance of a strong work ethic, toughness, and integrity. He felt it important to make your life worth something, fend for yourself and care for the ones you love. In his younger years, Wayne worked at several trade jobs including farming, ranching, logging, truck driving, and construction. He enlisted in the United States Army serving his country from 1944 through 1946. In the early 60's, Wayne started his twenty-six year profession as a meat cutter. Upon his retirement he drove a school bus and mowed lawns "just to stay active and make a little extra" as he would say. He loved to trade, especially lawn mowers, mainly because he liked to meet people and talk. He enjoyed attending Antioch Church north of Berryville. Wayne often told stories of growing-up (a few quite colorful indeed), how he met Dorthena, their early life together, and becoming a Christian. He spent a great deal of time riding horses with his son. Later on, they enjoyed time fishing the various rivers and lakes around Berryville. He was extremely proud of his grandsons, and loved to share with others about his family. Wayne had many acquaintances and friends over the years, some of which became very close to him and he considered his extended family. There were many, but the ones he talked about most were Vernon and Ruby Bunch, Bert and Maxine Strough, Vernon and Clemie Snow, Bobbie Campbell, and Frances "Frenchie" Domack. He met most of them every day at McDonalds to visit, share the latest news, and drink coffee. Frenchie and Wayne loved to travel and boy did they ever travel! They took numerous trips over the years, traveling by virtually every mode of transportation to many destinations. The most recent was a Caribbean Cruise in January. It was not at all uncommon to unexpectedly get a call from him telling where they were and what they were doing and seeing. Wayne created many lasting memories with those he loved and such memories will always be cherished. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dee and Ann Hency of The Woodlands, Texas; two grandsons, Matthew Hency and wife Kelsey and their daughter Faye of Dallas, Texas; Jonathan Hency and wife Amanda of Asheville, N.C. Additional survivors include, one brother, Marvin Hency of Pea Ridge, Ark.; one brother-in-law, Gerald Worley and his wife Marilyn of Berryville, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Doretha Stockslager of Harrison, Ark. and Ray Ann Worley of Berryville, Ark.; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Brother Dale Merideth officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to the Antioch Church, P.O.
