Silas Edwin Brewer

Silas Edwin Brewer, 93, of Berryville, Ark., passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark. He was born November 13, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, Ark. to the late Christopher Columbus Brewer and Eva Mae (Keithley) Brewer. Silas was a graduate of Mt. Vernon Public Schools, Draughns Business School in Little Rock, and Sheet Metal School in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway and the University of Arkansas with a masters and a specialist degree in education. He taught in Monticello, Wilburn, and Mountainburg Public Schools. He spent 31 years with the Berryville Public School in Berryville, AR, serving as principal and superintendent. He served his country during WW II in Northern Africa and Italy in the 22nd Supply Squadron of the US Army Air Core. He was a long time member of the Berryville Rotary Club and served on the board of the Carroll Regional Medical Center. His was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Margie Dee (Sanders) Brewer, his parents; four brothers, Elwyn, Lyle, Damon Duane, and Norvin Brewer; and two sisters, Cathryn Analda Brewer and an infant girl. He is survived by one son, Edwin (Donna) Brewer, of Fayetteville, Ark.; two daughters, Sharon (Lindell) Smith, of Huntsville, Ala. and Gayla (Donald) Taylor, of Piggott, Ark.; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Jason) Dearman, Ashley Smith, and Jill (Ryan) Evans; four great grandchildren, Ryan, Colleen, Casey, and Rowan Dearman; two brothers, C.C. (Sherron) Brewer and Eston Brewer; four sisters, MaryAnn McClarin, Irma Self, Eva (Mike) Holland, and Mae (Steve) Weger; and a host of friends and former students. There will be no service. Cremation by Holt Memorial Chapel.
