Carroll Ward Smith

Carroll Ward Smith, age 87, of Searcy, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. He was born December 24, 1927, in Abilene Texas to Martin Lloyd Smith and Daisy Ruth Lanotte Smith. He was a member of College Church of Christ and a retired professor in the Chemistry Department at Harding University. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorene Rose Smith; three sons, Walter Smith and wife Kelly of Rockwall, Texas, Scott Smith and wife Cheri of Searcy, Charles Smith and wife Julie of Richardson, Texas; one daughter, Rosemary Smith McKee of Missoula, Montana; one sister, Zoe Barten and husband Chris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Carroll loved his family. He had a lifelong passion for nature. An avid caver, he led many expeditions with the caving club at Harding University. He grew beautiful daffodils and daylilies in his expansive garden. A voracious reader, he was a devoted student of God's word and lived his life as a humble servant to Christ. For many years, he served as a Bible teacher and elder at the Downtown Church of Christ. Visitation is Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at College Church of Christ with interment to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
