Gertrude Ann Langhammer Jordan, age 85, of Crossett, Ark. departed this life on April 29, 2015. She was the oldest daughter of Rudolph Milton and Verna Lucille Schlopkohl Langhammer. Gertrude was born November 10, 1929 in Little Rock, AR and was a graduate of Little Rock High School in 1948. Gertrude met the love of her life in 1948. She met Bert Spencer Jordan, Jr. at a singles mixer at Winfield Methodist Church. They were married on August 27, 1950 in which they raised two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Jordan-Myers and Jo Clair Jordan-Wilcox both of Crossett. They were married 60 years at the time of Bert's death in 2010. She is also survived by her son-in-law, John Wilcox, his two sons and his three grandchildren. Her surviving sisters are Pat Cummins of Greenwood, Miss. and Jean Bynum of Clarksville, Tenn. She, Pat and Jean had one other sister, Marilyn L. Clark whom they lost in 2004. She was very active at her church. As members of the First United Methodist Church in Crossett, she and Bert worked with Elizabeth's Junior High group and began relationships not only with those kids, but with their kids. She was an active lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, founding member of the Couples and Career Class, member of the Chancel Choir. She had guest memberships in several church choirs which lasted over 70 years. In the list of things that she did in the community, the list is endless. In 1968, Mrs. Arden Richardson started the classes for Children with Learning Disabilities through the Crossett School District. She was the record keeper for the Arkansas Red Cross. She was a member of the Ashley County Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary. She was the buyer/manager for the hospital's gift shop for 25 years. She served as the Auxiliary's third president. Dr. Don Toon appointed her president of the Board of Directors for the LPN School at Forest Echoes Vo-Tech. But this writer believes that the greatest gift she gave to her family was the way she taught us the family traditions that are missing in so many families. Visitation will be Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Crossett. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 9 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with burial at 2 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park, 2801 Asher Ave., Little Rock, Ark. 72204 under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark.
