Charlotte Elaine Scott Woodward, daughter of Virginia Lee Littrell and Charlie Frank Scott was born January 19, 1943 in Fayetteville, Ark. Charlotte died after a long illness on Friday, May 1, 2015 in Fayetteville. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ken Woodward, son, Kenneth "Dwaine" Spears, and a nephew James Roy "Charley" Miller. Charlotte was known by many friends as "Ma" during the 1950's and 60's, when she was active with the Fayetteville Roller Rink located on Hwy 71 S. in Fayetteville. She will be remembered as one of the "most devoted groupies" of the Cate Brothers Band whom she has followed for over 45 years. She was well acquainted with other local musicians as well. Charlotte often commented "she was blessed to have many friends that loved and cared for her," Charlotte left Arkansas in 1982 to marry Ken Woodward a renowned Native American artist. She enjoyed their many years together traveling to Art Shows and being part of the Native American Art World. Charlotte will always be remembered by many as the woman that kick-started the Orphan Train Heritage Society of America, Inc. She was responsible for writing a story about her Grandmother Carrie Salverson Littrell for the Washington County Historical Book. The story was about her Grandmother riding the "Orphan Train" form New York to Arkansas in 1912. This story is what led to the interest in the Orphan train and the Society was formed in 1986 by Mary Ellen Johnson. Charlotte was very passionate about her family's genealogy and has documented her family's ancestral Cherokee roots as well. Charlotte retired from Baldwin Piano in Fayetteville in 2000. Since her retirement she had continued to pursue her passion of genealogy and has extended her family tree even farther. She is survived by a grandson, Spencer Lee Spears, sister, Nancy Scott Shepherd and husband, Al, niece, Teresa Stewart and husband, Danny, many cousins, friends and family. Charlotte wanted to leave a special "Note of Thanks" to her neighbors Mary Ellen Johnson and the "Johnson Boys" and to Rudy and Lynn Harper for all their loving assistance over the years. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson Berna Funeral Home. A Celebration of her life will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Chapel of Nelson Berna Funeral Home.
