James Edward Pickering (Jim Pick) of Mayflower, 75, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 5th, at St Vincent Hospice Center in Little Rock following a valiant battle with cancer. Born September 16, 1939 to George Dewey and Lou Anna Pickering, he was the youngest of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cecil, John, Paul, Fletcher and George and his sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his son James Walter (Buster) Pickering of Jacksonville, a brother, Chuck Pickering of Alpharetta, Ga. and his beloved sister Sarah Cameron of Parkers Chapel. Other survivors include one granddaughter and a great-grandson; a host of nieces and nephews and their families, including a special niece and friend Cathy Cameron of Sherwood. Jim Pick grew up in EI Dorado, Ark., graduating from EHS in 1958. He attended Arkansas Tech University and graduated with an accounting degree in 1962. He then began a long career in the field of public accounting and was the senior partner in the Pickering, Burchfield, Griffin, Haynie CPA firm located at 4th and Cross in Little Rock. He was an avid horseracing fan and owner of several thoroughbreds with his partners the late Howard House, Bill Walmsley, Mark Lamberth and his son Buster in the PHWL Racing Partnership LLC. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark. 72217 (501) 835-3515 with Chaplain Rich Heffington officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Designated memorials are Old Friends, a Facility for Retired Thoroughbreds, 1841 Paynes Depot Road, Georgetown, Ky. 40324 and Arkansas Racetrack Chaplaincy, P.O. Box 20564, Hot Springs, Ark. 71903.
