Barry Felton died peacefully at home among friends and relatives on May 12, 2015. He was born to Jarrell Bayron and Jo Annis Bryant Felton on March 6, 1952, in Crossett, Ark. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jo Annis Bryant Felton and his grandparents, Alice Scott and John Bayron Felton and Flossie Smith and Edward Hazen Bryant. At an early age Barry and his family moved to El Dorado where he was educated in the El Dorado Public Schools. He later attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. The consummate outdoorsman, Barry hunted and fished his favorite local spots like Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, and far away destinations including Venezuela, Alaska, and the Louisiana Gulf Coast where the locals referred to him as "Mr. Barry." He was a long time member of the Bang Slough Hunting Club where he taught his children and the children of others to hunt safely and with a sense of sportsmanship. For the past ten years Barry enjoyed piloting his own boat, The Thunderbird, between Monroe, Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico, treating hundreds of friends, relatives, and business associates to superb fishing and wonderful cuisine. Barry enjoyed a remarkably successful business career in the oil and gas industry as partner in the family business, Felton Oil Company. He was a past president of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association. His community involvement included serving on the boards of the First National Bank of El Dorado and the El Dorado Golf and Country Club. An Eagle Scout, Barry has a lifelong commitment to the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of forty years, Carol Sample Felton; a son, John Bryant Felton (Amie); a daughter, Rosamond Felton Johnson (Blake), three grandchildren, Savannah Jo Felton, Amelia Rose Felton, and William Blake Johnson; a brother, Walter Bryant Felton (Gayle); a sister, Jane Felton Proffitt; nieces, Hollis Proffitt, Samantha Boyd (Graham), Sally Anne Ward (Jeff), Sara Andon; and nephews, Stewart M. Brown, Garrett H. Brown (Cathy) and Houston Andon. Barry was a member of First Baptist Church of El Dorado. Memorials may be made to the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. Visitation will be on Wednesday May 13, 5-7 p.m. at the Felton Residence, 3400 Calion Rd. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, at First Baptist Church under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
