Vollie Idres Watson, 91, of Conway went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 15, 2015. He was born Monday, December 3, 1923 in Holland, Ark. to the late Byron Augustus and Lilly Mae Price Watson. Mr. Watson served in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a corporal in the 2nd Recon Squad as a Turrett Gunner, stationed in the Phillipines during the Pacific Theater. He served again in the Korean War for the Army, where he fought on the frontlines in North Korea. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and several other honorary medals. After his military service he farmed for several years. He then went into the insurance business and later became a Home Builder, following a family tradition and leaving a legacy that continues today through his sons Tom and Kevin Watson. Mr. Watson was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Vilonia. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, Grandkids, raising bird dogs and playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Everett Watson and wife Eunice and Byron A. Watson, Jr.; sisters, Hazel Nipps, Maxine Ulmer and husband Jim; sister-in-law, Nell Watson; and brother-in-law, Doug Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years Norma Sue Gibbs Watson of Conway; daughter, Vickie Watson Marshall of Conway; sons, Tom Watson (Cindy) of Conway and Kevin Watson (Michelle) of Conway; grandchildren, Brannon Watson, Ashley Watson Gardner (Jeremy), Jonathan Watson, Justin Watson and Jessica Watson; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Amelia Gardner; sisters, Jewell Johnson of Bossier City, La., Virginia Cash (Walter) of Crossville, Ala. and Pauline Stevenson of Springdale, Ark.; sister-in-law, Alzora Watson of Springfield, Mo.; brothers, Wayne Watson (Annette) of Vilonia, Dennis Watson (Pat) of Blanchard, La., Eugene Watson of Springdale, Ark. and Dwight Watson of Conway; brother-in-law, Garland Nipps of Benton, Ark.; and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be Monday May 18, 2015, 6 to 8 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501)327-7727. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Steve Goode and Brother Sam Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
