Carl E. (Gene) Morrison, Junior, 93, went peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 17. A life-long resident of Earle, Ark., Mr. Morrison graduated from Vanderbilt University where he was a student council member, president of his senior class and president of DKE Social Fraternity. During World War II, Mr. Morrison was a P.T. Boat commander receiving a Purple Heart and was discharged as a Lieutenant J.G. As a life-long member of the Earle, Ark., First United Methodist Church, he held numerous positions within the church, and he held the honor of being the oldest church member. Mr. Morrison took pleasure in farming with his brother, W.P. (Buddy) Morrison for over 40 years. Gene served as president of the Earle Rotary Club, the Earle School board, and the Crittenden County Farm Bureau. He also served on the board of Farm Credit, First Southern Bank, Arkansas Farm Bureau, Crittenden County Draft Board, Crittenden County Equalization Board, and Crittenden Memorial Hospital. Mr. Morrison is preceded in death by his brother, W.P. (Buddy) Morrison. He also leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Cooper; his sister Carolyn Barton of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Carolyn Carlisle (Todd) of McComb, Miss.; and sons, Carl E. Morrison III (Nancy), and W. Cooper Morrison (Grace Anne), both of Germantown, Tenn.; as well as five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Earle, Ark. Celebration of Life service will follow at 2 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Earle, or Kirby Pines Retirement Community in Memphis.
