Russell Carter, age 92, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in Fayetteville. He was born Steven Russell Carter on June 26, 1922 in Loy, Arkansas, the son of William Thomas Carter and Allie Russell Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Alpha Barry and brothers Clell, Raymond, Burel and W. T. Russell was a veteran of World War II, earning eight battle stars, including Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, Central Europe and the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge). He was a member of the 459th Antiaircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion. Russell was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Fayetteville where he found solace and friendship. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elma; a son, Garry; three grandsons, Joshua Andrew, Matthew Adam and Thomas Russell and a granddaughter, Zoe Nicole. Visitation will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with a service to follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
