Jean Moore Atwood

Jean Moore Atwood, 94, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Trinity Village Medical Center in Pine Bluff. She was born July 25, 1920 in Rison, one of two children of Willie Moody Moore and Victor Vance Moore of Rison. Mrs. Atwood lived in Rison and attended high school in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1938. She graduated from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri in 1942, serving on the homecoming court in her junior and senior years. Jean Moore met her future husband while attending college and married Harry Baker Atwood after she graduated, then moving to Pine Bluff where they raised their family. She was involved in her community for many years. Mrs. Atwood and her husband were active in First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and circle leader in the Women of the Church. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary, later the Junior League, the Bess Jenkins Club, the Mathontes Club and was a member emeriti of the Colonial Dames of America. Mrs. Atwood was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, Nancy Moore Glover. Survivors include her son, Victor Moore Atwood (Susan) of Pine Bluff; daughter, Suzanne Atwood Rhodes (Jim) of New Bern, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Moore Atwood (Stacy) of Star City, John Baker Atwood of Hot Springs, Jean Rhodes Baker (Allen) of Wilmington, N.C. and Jennifer Rhodes Siegel (Scott) of Winterville, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren, Grant Atwood of Star City, Baker and Ava Atwood of Little Rock, Ellie and Slade Baker of Wilmington, N.C. and Hailey and Lilliana Siegel of Winterville, N.C. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Susan Carter Wiggins officiating. The family will receive friends in McColgan Hall at the church from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Rison. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Trinity Village Medical Center, Dr. Dedman and a special helper for many years, Earline Pryor.
