DeLean Elizabeth Jones Alexander, age 93, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in Springdale. She was born September 19, 1921, in Gurdon, Arkansas, the daughter of Berry Robert and Amanda Elizabeth Hazelwood Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jimmie and Preston; a sister, Doris, and her beloved husband of 60 years, Fred Farmer Alexander. She was retired from the banking business and was a member of Joiner United Methodist Church in Joiner, Arkansas. She was the first woman in Arkansas to manage a bank in Leachville, Ark., taking over when husband Fred joined the Army Air Corps in 1944. "Mama Dea" shared her love of beauty through gifts to family and friends of her exquisite needlework and culinary skills. She loved raising flowers, cooking, and dancing and was renowned for her coconut cake. She never met a stranger and treated each customer at her bank window with a smile and respect. She is survived by a son, Tasker Rodman Alexander and his wife Brenda Woodard Alexander of Marion, Arkansas; a daughter, Freddie Elizabeth Bowles and her husband David Ebenezer Baldwin Bowles of Fayetteville, Arkansas; a grandson, Marcus D.D.A. Bowles of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and a sister, Robbie Nell Shaver of Jonesboro, Arkansas. "Mama Dea" will be remembered on Saturday, May 30, 11 a.m. at Joiner United Methodist Church.
