Richard "Dick" Jacobs

Richard Vincent "Dick" Jacobs, age 90, of Benton, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015. He was born November 14, 1924 in Tull, Arkansas. Richard grew up as a small town boy with a larger than life love for his family, friends, hunting and the Lord in Tull, Arkansas. At 18, Richard got a calling to defend this great nation of ours, the Army Air Corp. He was assigned the 305th Bombgroup with the 422nd Squadron and they were stationed overseas at Chelveston Airfield in Chelveston, England. Richard was trained as a tail gunner in a B-17 flying fortress. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW. Richard retired from ALCOA as a supervisor. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Ewell "Dick" Jacobs and Gladys Zahringer Jacobs; granddaughter, Kara Dianne Wright and a son-in-law, Jack Rhodes Jr. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Veneta Erwin Jacobs; four daughters, Dianne "Dicey" Rhodes, Janet Ausburn (Fred), Terri Wright (Jim) and Sherri Lewis (Mark); brother, Charles Curtis Jacobs; sisters, Lou Ann Hopkins and Betty Rollon; nine grandchildren, Melissa Ramos (Chris), Brett Rhodes, Preston Ausburn, Anna Kathryn Morgan (Josh), James Wright, Caroline Rhodes, Molly Wright, Taylor Wright and Jake Lewis; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee & Brielle Ramos, Gracie & Carley Morgan and Vincent Wright and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Sims, John Jacobs, "Jimmy" Wright, Norman Oetken, Greg Rollon, Eddie Milam, Vince Jacobs, Rush Duvall and Doug Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Sample, Tommy Reed, Olen Weaver and Gerald Baxley. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 15 at Ashby Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 16 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery. Rev. Victor Green will be officiating.
