Dr. William Detmers, 73, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, November 16, 2015. He was born June 20, 1942 in Michigan. Dr. Detmers earned his B.F.A. and M.Ed. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He earned his M.F.A. from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. His education continued with his Ed.D. at the University of Cincinnati. He was a professor at IUPUI, LSU, University of Hawaii, and Culver-Stockton College. Before retiring he moved on to UAPB as a Full Professor of Art and Art Education for seventeen years, retiring in 2012. Dr. Detmers has been proudly exhibiting in regional and national exhibitions since 1963. He has been connected with galleries in many parts of the country, including New York, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas. He was a Session Member of Central Presbyterian Church, past board member of the Arts and Science Center, and Board President of NAMI Arkansas. Survivors include his wife, Connie Landis Detmers, whom he married February 1, 1963 in Fredricktown, Ohio; son, Broc Detmers; daughter, Maria Wells and her husband Bill; two grandchildren, including Denver Wells; and sister, Cindy Schuster. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Central Presbyterian Church with Reverend David King officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson's.
