Mary Velma Hathcock

Mary Velma Chancellor Hathcock, 94, of Caney (Hot Spring Co.), went home to be with the Lord Nov. 21. 2015. Velma was born to the late Houston and Delia Ledbetter Chancellor on Oct. 30, 1921. Velma enjoyed feeding family and loved a good practical joke. She was known for her famous "Mamaw's plain cake" that she loved to bake for her family to share with friends and co-workers. Velma was a member of Caney Missionary Baptist Church. While she was living in California during World War II, she worked as a riveter on the warships. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters and she is finally reunited with her loving husband of thirty-eight years, Walter Hathcock. She is survived by her children, Joyce (Melvin) Matthews of Caney, Randy (Linda) Hathcock of Friendship and Donny Hathcock of Sherman, Texas; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 23rd at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 24th at Caney Missionary Baptist Church with Robert Cossey and Ralph Ruffiin officiating. Burial will follow at Caney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Dakota Davis, Caleb Davis, Hunter Lewis, Alec Lewis, Joshua Matthews, Ryan Matthews and Omar Al-Kalib. The family sincerely appreciates the loving care Velma received over the past few years from caregivers, Dee, Faith, Kristy, Tina, Donna and Rosemary.
