Dr. James Robert Rasch Sr., age 86 of Maumelle, Arkansas died Tuesday, November 24, 2015. He was born on October 21, 1929 to his late parents George and Vera Neeley Rasch in Glendale, California. He was a 1948 High School graduate of Newport, Arkansas and a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1952. Dr. Rasch graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1956 with high honors and did his medical internship at UAMS in 1957. From 1963 – 1966 Dr. Rasch was Chief of Medicine at Keesler AFB in Mississippi and from 1956 – 1985 he was on staff at the Little Rock Diagnostic Clinic. In addition, from 1986 – 2013 he was on staff at the Central Arkansas Veteran's System and was Chief of Staff at the Little Rock Baptist Health Medical Center. Dr. Rasch was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, College of Chest Physicians and the American Association of Respiratory Care. Last but not least, he was the Respiratory Care Doctor for the first seven Astronauts while he was in the Air Force. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Rasch – Colleran of Danvers, Mass.; two sons, James (Jim) Rasch, Jr. (Tammy) of Austin, Ark. and Timothy (Tim) Rasch (Mary) of Slidell, La.; one brother, William (Bill) Rasch of Maumelle, Ark. and six grandchildren, Nathaniel Colleran, Sydney Rasch, Nicholas Colleran, James (Jake) Rasch, Emily Rasch and Nolan Colleran. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Edwards Rasch. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Concord Cemetery (Hwy 89) in Furlow, Arkansas with Jay Bruno officiating.
