Alan Risener

In loving memory of Alan Risener, 69, of Searcy. Grant Carey, program director for KWCK 99-point-9 and the Crain Media Group in Searcy said it best on the Wednesday noon broadcast in honor of Alan: "It is with heavy hearts and minds that we report that beloved colleague Alan Risener suddenly passed away last night of heart attack at the age of 69. Alan was a friend, a boss, a husband, a father and a grandfather but so much more than that to those whose lives he touched. He was a broadcasting legend in Arkansas, a past president of the Arkansas Broadcasters Association, and spent a vast majority of his broadcasting career off-and-on Searcy at KWCK 99-point-9. He started in Searcy in 1967. First as a programmer, then program director, then working into sales as a salesman then sales director, eventually becoming general manager of the station. From 1985 to 1996 he was part-owner and general manager of the station as well. During his time in Searcy he was heavily involved in his church and even politics, serving for a time on the Searcy City Council. His passion for sports ran deep as well having attended the University of Arkansas-University of Texas Game of the Century in 1969 in Fayetteville with long-time friend Mike Horne. Alan took that passion and applied to his trade serving as the voice of the Harding University Bisons for many years along with Searcy High School sports. After several years removed from Searcy, Mike Horne convinced Alan to come back to Searcy to serve as General Manager for the Crain Media Group Searcy Stations last year. He stayed in that capacity until a few months ago where he moved on into his next venture. Alan was known for trademark phrase "Mornin' Cousins" in which he shared a daily thought on Facebook. In typical style, this was a past post he shared with others. Sunday in the south! A beautiful day with fall-like temps. A day to smile and be happy. But sure wish my Hogs would have won last night. While Alan will be missed by those who knew him dearly, we know that is nothing compared to the loss that is being felt by his wife, Lynn, his three daughters, and four grandchildren. It is to his family, his friends and others whose lives he touched, the staff and management at KWCK 99-point-9 and Crain Media mourn with you. This is 99 second moment of silence is for you, Alan." He was preceded in death by one son, Adam Risener; one brother, Matthew Risener; and his parents, Joe and Helen Risener. He married Lynn Banard Risener Sept. 10, 1966 at Fort Smith, Ark.; she survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Shannon Dew (Herb) of Greenville, S.C., Lisa Risener of Greenville, S.C., and Cara Schwertly (Scott) of Nashville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Emma Kate and Meg Seckinger; two grandsons, Jackson Risener and Stone Schwertly; one sister, Julie Morgan (Phillip) of Paragould; two nieces, Laurel Gearson (Sean) of Memphis and Chelle Morgan of Jonesboro; as well as a host of extended family and friends. Visiting hours are 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at Downtown Church of Christ Auditorium. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Sunday at College Church of Christ with burial following at White County Memorial Gardens.
