Troy Lane Farmer, age 77, of Crossett, Ark. passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015. He was born on January 21, 1938 in Crossett, Ark. to his parents, Rockford G. and Bernice Naff Farmer. Troy graduated from Hamburg High school in 1956 as president of the student body. He began working for Georgia Pacific until 1969 (13 years) and started work at Trigg's Department Store in the shoe department until he became the owner and thus began Troy's Shoes for the next 36 years until his retirement. He was presently employed at Sharpe's Department Store. His dedication to community service included: Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce for 6 years and president of the Chamber in 1988, President of Kiwanis club in 1992 and was Kiwanian of the Year 1993-1994, Daniel School adopter since the beginning in 1989, a Gideon since the local camp began and served as Vice President and was now Memorial Bible Chairman. Troy was a member of First Church of God where he served as President of the Board of Trustees for 20 years; and choir director for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, singing and pestering his wife, Nell. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Patricia Douglass and Dorla McGilton, three brothers-in-law, Thad Douglass, Kenneth McGilton and Gerald Thornton. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, LaNell Brown Farmer of Crossett; one son, DeTroy "Bubba" Farmer (Lindsay) of Moore, Okla.; one daughter, DeAndria Land (Trey) of Crossett; one brother, Gary D. Farmer (Chloe); two sisters, Pam Thornton and Angie Rodgers (Roy), all of Hamburg, Ark.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Love, Trent Land, Jaret and Jace Farmer; two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and church family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at First Church of God with Bro. Will Hughes and Bro. Randy Ivy officiating. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark. (www.jonesservice.com).
