George A. Buckles, 76, of Springdale, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. He was born March 20, 1939 in Jackson, Mich. to Charles Ross Buckles, Sr. and Clara E. DeBoe Buckles and was raised in the Solana Beach, Calif. area. George retired from the United States Air Force from a career spanning over 20 years of military service. He served in Vietnam. While serving, he earned a distinguished medal of honor award for going above and beyond the call of duty. He was a devoted husband and father that was honest, trustworthy, steadfast, and loyal. He lived life that way and passed those beliefs down to his children and family. He had a gentle quietness about him that made everyone comfortable around him. Survivors include his devoted wife, Jan Buckles of the home to whom he married Sept. 14, 1957; four daughters: Gerri R. Buckles of Corvallis, Ore., Vicki Murr of Springdale, Lisa Young and husband, Ron of Rogers, and Rachelle Buckles of Springdale; one brother, Charles "Jug" Ross Buckles, Jr. of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; five grandchildren: Scott Ross Murr, Brent Young, Mason Young, Jessica Buckles, and Eyvonne Geordan Buckles; and two great-grandchildren, Parker Kuth-Young and Brady Murr. Memorial graveside service will be Monday, Oct. 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery with Military Honors. No visitation planned.
