Charles Alan Beauchamp, 75 of Fayetteville, Ark. died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, October 24, 2015. Alan was a 1958 graduate of Fayetteville High School, where he started as a point guard for the Bulldog basketball team. His real passion, however, was tennis. He played tennis for the University of Arkansas during the first years they offered any scholarships, playing #1 his senior year. After pursuing a master's degree in history, he coached basketball and/or taught history at Farmington HS, where he was both the Cardinals boys and girls basketball coach, and later in Montpelier, OH, and Atlantic City, N.J.. He returned to Fayetteville to coach tennis, running the parks tennis program for years and serving as the tennis coach for FHS for eight years, winning the state championship five times and being ranked second for another two. He amassed 120 wins against 17 losses, even while playing out- of-state regional powerhouses. He stepped down as coach after the spring of 1977. After leaving FHS, he instructed tennis at Summerhill Racquet Club until he completed the building of his private court where he continued to instruct until just a few years ago. He was an accomplished tennis player in addition to being an excellent coach. He has been ranked number one in Arkansas in the 35 and over division several times in singles and doubles, and has won the state championship in open doubles with his younger brother. Alan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to Fayetteville when he was 10 years old. He attended Washington Elementary and Fayetteville Junior High, later known as Hillcrest. In addition to being a Razorback fan, he loved the OU Sooners. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry Beauchamp and Julia Margaret (Cameron) Beauchamp. He is survived by one sister, Ashley Thibault (Frank) of Benton, Ark., one brother David Beauchamp (Jimmie) of Fayetteville, Ark., one niece, Sarah Thibault Jones (Tom) of Little Rock, Ark., and one nephew Scott Thibault (Janis) of Little Rock, Ark. Alan was a kind and gentle person who enjoyed good conversation and the company of close friends and family. He touched many lives in Fayetteville through tennis and through his generosity. He will be greatly missed by many. Per Alan's wishes there will be no services and the burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter. To sign the online guest book please visit www.nelsonberna.com.
