John W. McAtee, age 66, of Benton passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 in Morgantown, WVa. He was born on February 5, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late John and Helen McAtee. Mr. McAtee retired from the Arkansas Lighthouse for the Blind, was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play golf, was an avid reader, and enjoyed swimming. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of Hurricane Creek Country Club, and a graduate of both Weirton Madonna High School and West Virginia University. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Rebecca "Becky" McAtee; two brothers, Ronald and Daniel McAtee, and one nephew, Kevin Cox. He is survived by his daughter, Christina McAtee and significant other, Stanley Thompson, of Benton; his grandson who was the absolute light of his life, William Thompson; two sisters, Patty Cox and husband, Steve and Ruth Hartley, all of Weirton, WV; his mother-in-law, Peg Thompson of Alabama; several nieces and nephews; other relatives, and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton with Father Y.C. officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock. A Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27th at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (501-315-4047) with a time of visitation to follow.
