Doris Michel Stephenson

Doris Michel Stephenson, age 81, of Ruckersville, Virginia, formerly of Malvern, died Sunday, October 25, 2015. She was born on November 6, 1933 in Sigourney, Iowa to the late Harry Michel and Cleta Pauline Derby Michel. Reared and receiving her early education in Sigourney, she attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, graduating in 1953 with an A.A. In General Studies. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church, Malvern, since 1969, and had sung in church choirs for 60 years. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1953. Doris was the widow of Dale Stephenson, to whom she was married on July 30, 1967 in Sigourney, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her children, Mary Lynn Wyant (Glen) of Texas, Donna Lee Gurley (Doug) of Mississippi, Patricia Lou Kindy (Phillip) of Rogers, Arkansas, Bonnie Lori Wimberly (Allen) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Sheryl Linda Donley (Scott) of Ruckersville, Virginia, and Anita Louise Davidson (Grant) of Coahoma, Texas; two brothers, Max and Rex Michel; 16 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Doris was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cloyd and Phil Michel. Her funeral will be on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with Reverend LaVon Post officiating and under the direction of J.A. Funk Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rockport Memorial Gardens.
