Donald Nixon Offutt

Dr. Donald Nixon Offutt M.D. P.A., 79, of El Dorado and currently residing in Hot Springs, passed away peacefully on Oct. 25, 2015 from complications following surgery for colon cancer. Don was born Oct. 10, 1936, in El Dorado, Ark. He was the son of J.C. Offutt and Foster Nixon Offutt, who preceded him in death in 2001 and 1971, respectively. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Myrtle Dyer Offutt of Hot Springs (formerly of El Dorado); his sons and their wives, Jeff and Sandra Offutt of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mark and Karen Offutt of Austin, Texas; his five grandsons, Justin, William, Karl, Dylan and Benjamin; and his two brothers,John Offutt and his wife Beth of Sahuarita, Ariz., and David Offutt of El Dorado. Don was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of El Dorado High School, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, and the U of A's College of Medicine in Little Rock. He served as a Captain in the USAF from '61 to '66 as a physician stationed in France. From the Air Force, he took his residency in Psychiatry at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, KS, before establishing his longtime private psychiatric practice in Dallas, Texas. In 2000, he retired to a newly-built home in Hot Springs on Lake Hamilton, where he enjoyed fishing and giving his grandsons rides on his party barge. Don will be cremated and eventually buried in El Dorado at the family plot in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501 )224-2200.
