Retired MSgt Julius Richard (JR) Gannon, Jr., of Jacksonville, Ark., passed away Sept 1, 2015. He was born in Holly Grove, Ark. March 11, 1931 to Lena Lucinda and Julius Richard Gannon, Sr. He is preceded in death by his sisters Kathleen Sanborn, who died June 2, 2015 at Lakeland, Fla. He was married to Ruth Marie Connolly Gannon for 56 years until her death July 4, 2008. He is survived by his brother Donald (Waltraud) of Augusta, Ga., Ann (Gene) White of Gravel Ridge, Ark., Sue (Bobby) Cheatham of Jacksonville, Ark.; his sisters-in-law, Joann (Norm) Weiss of Bethel Park, Pa. and Marcy Connolly of Warrick, Pa. He was blessed with four children, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. JR's daughter: Maureen Miller of Conway, Ark., his granddaughter Shauna (Juston) Tankersley, great-grandchildren Jameson and Jackson; his granddaughter Heather (Michael) Strobel, great-grandchildren Ryan and Jakob; JR's daughter Jennifer (Damien) Horn, his grandson Jeremy; JR's son, Michael Gannon of NLR, and JR's son Tommy (Kelli) Gannon of NLR, his grandson, Jeffrey (Amber) Gannon, great-grandchildren Dallas and Harper. JR left the farm in Holly Grove, Ark., and joined the Air Force in 1950 to see the world. Indeed, he did. He traveled to such exotic places like Saudi Arabia, Azores, Spain, Bermuda, and most of the United States. He served in Vietnam. He met the love of his life in Bermuda. He swept the Pittsburgh, Pa. girl right off her feet and lasted for 56 years. He will be remembered for always having a smile on his face and never meeting a stranger. He always had a story. He had a great love for Greers Ferry Lake. He and his family spent many wonderful years at the lake. He was always happy to (teach) pull someone behind his boat his boat. His last trip to the lake this summer was to watch one of his great-grandchildren learn to ski. To his last day, these memories sustained him. He and his wife had a wonderful group of friends. They met every Friday night for the last 40 years. The family wishes to thank the ICU nurses and CNAs at Baptist Springhill for all their love, support, and great care over the last month. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park with military honors.
