Dorothy "Dot" Wright Watkins

Funeral services for Dorothy "Dot" Wright Watkins, 88, of Ruston will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston with Rev. Dale Oden officiating. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mrs. Watkins was born March 22, 1927 in O'Neal, AR. and passed away August 30, 2015 in Ruston, La. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Doug Watkins; father: Orvey S. Wright; mother: Audie Mae Thompson; sister: Mary Sue Wright and brother: Thurl Wright. Doug and Dot were members of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Dot met Doug after WWII at Ouachita Baptist University. After raising their four children and retiring they traveled throughout the US where they researched the genealogy of the Watkins and Wright families. This research culminated in the publication of the Watkins family history in 2007. She is survived by daughter: Gayle Barnard (Ben) of Smithfield, Va.; sons: Alan Watkins (Libbey) of Minden, La., Mark Watkins (Beverly) of Little Rock, Ark.., and Jim Watkins of Ruston, Lq.; sister: Joan Mead of Bella Vista, Ark.; sister-in-law: Van Spillar (Tommy) of Irving, Texas; grandchildren: Jason (Mia), Adam, Leah (Steve), Case (Kristin), Lou (Ashleigh), Maggie (Jonathan), Jacob (Emily), Lauren (Josh) and Anna; 12 great-grandchildren: and nieces, Lynn Cowan and Katy May.
