Jerry Kenneth Unger, 84, of Rogers and long-time resident of Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 1. He was born July 28, 1931 in Cicero, IL to the late Jerry and Emily Jordan Unger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Unger. Jerry treasured his relationships with colleagues, Shriner's and appreciated the ethnic and cultural diversity he experienced. Jerry was a busy man raising a family while maintaining dual careers as an insurance broker and fireman, retiring as a Lieutenant of the Brookfield, Ill. Fire Dept. As Shriner and 32nd degree Mason, he was very active with Shriner's Parades, Circuses and fund raising activities to support Children's Hospitals. He made the banjos for the Shriner's Band members to use during their parades. However, his love of family was the strongest and most-dear to him. For more than 61 years he was the loving husband of Carol Blazevich Unger of the home. He is also survived by his son, Dr. Eric J. Unger of Los Angeles; his sisters, Alice Kyzivat of Ill. and Sharon (Arthur) Rosezky of Florida. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 5 with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 noon in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. A private entombment will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Online condolences may be expressed at www.RollinsFuneral.com.
