Dewell Alfred Anderson, 78, of Benton, passed away September 7, 2015. He was born July 10, 1937 to the late Jewell and Vera Anderson. He attended Park View Methodist Church. Dewell grew up in the Sardis community, attended and graduated from Bryant Schools. He joined the Air National Guard and was activated to service during the Central High Crisis. Dewell worked at Curtis Mathes before joining the Benton Fire Department in 1967. He worked his way thru the ranks to become the Fire Chief until his retirement in 1988. He served on the Fire Fighters Pension Board. Dewell continued to work in his retirement for another career at Wal-Mart, finally retiring after 20 years. He loved fishing, hunting, watching Western movies and Razorback games. Dewell was famous for his PawPaw breakfasts and frying Catfish, Hushpuppies and fixing Spinach dip. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell Anderson and Vera Styles Anderson, great grandson, Saul Anderson Billingsley and half-sister, Marie Little. Dewell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra Smith Anderson, sons, Ken (Donna) Anderson and Todd Anderson, grandchildren, Britni (Jacob) Billingsley, Sam Anderson and Paige Anderson, great grandson, Abe Billingsley, sister, Linda (Larry) White, several nieces and nephews, brother in law, Ernest Smith and his furry companion, Pedro. Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 11 a.m. on Friday with Dr. Dari Rowen officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
