Eugene "Dean" Payton

Eugene "Dean" Payton, age 89, of Fayetteville passed away Monday September 7, 2015 in Fayetteville. He was born April 12, 1926 in Barron, Oklahoma the son of Austin and Ora Hayes Payton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 49 years Faye Hawkins Payton they married on December 24, 1949 and she passed away on June 28, 1998. He was a member of Buckner Baptist Church, a carpenter and cabinet maker and received the Arkansas Carpenters Union Craftsman of the Year award. He was also a Boy Scout Leader and a competitive horseshoe pitcher. He is survived by his wife, Jerryldene Davis Payton of Fayetteville, two sons, Jerry Payton, and Tommy Payton and his wife Christina both of Fayetteville; one stepdaughter, Suzy Skelton of Fayetteville; a twin sister, Imogene Barker of Texarkana; one brother, Frank Payton of Mountainburg; four grandchildren, Brad Hilker, Marty Payton, Sarah Kenner and Melody Seeley; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Kristin Hilker, Laura Hilker, Rider Harvin, and Brinley Kenner; and six step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday September 11, 2015 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home with burial to follow at Ledbetter Cemetery. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
