Roger Eugene Barnes, 81, of Hot Springs, passed away September 12, 2015. He was born September 13, 1933 in Lineboro, Maryland to Stanley and Claudia Barnes. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Ray Barnes and Kent Barnes, and sister, Evelyn Tigan. Roger graduated from Sparks High School in Sparks, Maryland and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Weyerhauser after 30 years. Roger volunteered at the Caring Place of Hot Springs for Alzheimer, as well as being an AARP tax counselor for many years at the Garland County Library. Roger was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Genesis Sunday School Class. Roger was an avid stock car racing fan and enjoyed watching the Razorbacks and playing golf. Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann (Lockamy) Barnes; son, Mark (Dawn) Barnes and of Columbia, South Carolina; his two daughters, Monica (Jim) Shults of Hot Springs and Susan (John) Schroeder of Little Rock; brothers, William (Jean) Barnes and Roland (Diane) Barnes and sisters, Nona Porter and Vivian Kramer. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth (David) Konz, Mark Barnes, Jr., Jason (Charity) Barnes and Kristen Shults. Roger was most happy when his grandchildren came to visit and especially when his great-grandsons, Braxton and Dakota Konz. Honorary pallbearers include David Bell, L.C. Gaither, Roger Giddings, Bob Gilliam, Joe Glaeser, George Locke and Larry Walker. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wilson and Rev. Zach Roberts officiating. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs. Guest register is www.caruth-hale.com.
