Mr. Douglas Jerome Drake, 78, of Hope, Ark. passed away at his home on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Mr. Drake was born July 21, 1937 in Hope, Ark. to Bynum Jerome and Ena Powell Drake. Mr. Drake grew up in Patmos, Ark., he attended Henderson State College and studied Pre-Pharmacy, before obtaining his B.S. in Pharmacy from UAMS in Little Rock in June 1962. While obtaining his degree he married the love of his life Nancy Carolyn Story on July 11, 1958. He moved back to Hope and partnered with Steve Bader at Ward and Son Drug in 1963. He opened his own pharmacy (Village Rexall Drug) in December 1966. He retired after 42 years of service to the community, and made many lifelong friends through his customers. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the School of Hope, and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Hope. His greatest joy in life was traveling the country with Carolyn in their motorhome and spending time with his sons and grandkids at the lake and on the family farm. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by two sons: Stephen Jerome Drake and wife Becki of Austin, Texas and John Douglas Drake and wife Kathy of Broken Bow, Okla.; five grandchildren: Gretchen Booth, Jonathan Edwards, Charlie Drake, Judd Drake, and Landen Drake; four great-grandchildren: Nathan Edwards, Kaylynn Drake, Lynnley Drake, and Treylynn Drake; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation for Mr. Drake will be Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Herndon Pharr Funeral Home, Hope, Ark. Funeral service will be Friday, September 25, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Hope, Ark. at 10am with Bro. Mark Fischer officiating. Interment to follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Patmos Rd., Hope, Ark., under the direction of Herndon Pharr Funeral Home, Hope, Ark.
