Doug graduated from Kirkman Tech in Chattanooga in 1966 where he played baseball, was secretary of the Key Club, and voted "Most School Spirited" by his peers. He enjoyed bass fishing, golfing, reading, and watching the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Most of all, Doug loved judging girls gymnastics for many years. After retirement he continued to judge both girls & collegiate women's gymnastic competitions. In 2004 Doug received the "Founding Fathers" award from the Tennessee Academy of Gymnastics, and in 2006 he received the "Pioneer Award" from Tennessee Gymnastics.
