James Ted McLarty

James Ted McLarty of Magnet Cove, Ark., passed away Fri., April 8, 2016 at the age of 91. He was born July 22, 1924 to the late Glen T. and Fannie (Ray) McLarty in Nashville, Ark. He served in WWII with the United States Army 77th infantry division, making seven amphibious landings in the south pacific theater. He retired from Reynolds Metals/Alcoa reduction plant at Jones Mill. Ted was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and the original dog whisperer. He kept and hunted many top notch hunting dogs. Quail (bird) hunting with good dogs was his favorite sport by far, but when the "birds" left it was anything he could hunt with a dog. Later on, many a turkey was sorry he took up the sport. Ted was a member of many hunting clubs and leases over the years and loved to hear a good deer race. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Landell Edmiaston; three sisters, Wilma Springs, Helen Goodwin, Glenda Chessir and a grandson, Ryan McBride. Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Marsha (Ken) McBride McCullough; son, Terry (Sheila) McLarty; two grandchildren, Grady (Angie) McBride and Jon McLarty and two great-grandchildren, Cate and Maddie McBride. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tues., April 12, 2016 at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church with Pastor David Fleming officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Arkansas Chapter or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Arrangements are with Hot Springs Funeral Home.
