Margaret E. Garner, 91, of Hot Springs, formerly of Fordyce, died Mon., April 4, 2016 in Hot Springs. Born in Star City on Nov. 11, 1924 to the late John Aubry and Ollie Nobles Brockman. She graduated from Star City High School, then graduated from Monticello College with a teaching degree. Margaret taught school in Key West, Fla., Charleston, S.C., Warwick, R.I., and Gorton, Conn. Some of the most challenging and fulfilling years of her 30 year teaching career culminated in her leadership of the General Cooperative Education Program in the Fordyce school system. Her strong faith led her to membership in the Fordyce Baptist Church, and to her service through many teaching and leadership positions in Baptist churches in the cities where they had lived. At the age of nine, Margaret won a prize on a dress she had made. That began a life-long enjoyment of sewing which led to her love of quilting. Her interests were many, among which were music, growing flowers and vegetables, and traveling all 50 states with her husband, Randy. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Randy Garner; her parents; son, Rick Garner; brother, John Brockman Jr.; two sisters, Sibyl Brockman Brown and Judith Jan Brockman Harvey. She is survived by her grandson, Christopher Garner; several cousins, nieces and nephews. A private service of burial was officiated by Reverend Ken Shaddox. Arrangements by Griffin Funeral Service in Star City. Online guestbook at ww.griffinfuneralservice.net.
