John Edward Jones, age 73 of Texarkana, Arkansas, formerly of Magnet Cove, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at CHI St. Vincent in Little Rock while surrounded by his loving family. John was born February 15, 1943, in Carthage to the late Willie Elmer and Virgie Alleen Lea Jones. John was a member of Northern Hills Baptist Church in Texarkana and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1966 to 1968, having attained the rank of E5. He was also a member of the Smith Hunting Club of Princeton. John was a leader in Arkansas' lumber and forest products industry. He was Vice-President of Anthony Timberlands, Inc., overseeing all production at their Arkansas mills from 1976–1997. He was a partner and Vice-President in Anthony Wood Treating of Hope since its founding, serving as Plant Manager from 1997 until his retirement in 2003. He was appointed to the Arkansas Forestry Commission by former Governor Frank White where he served for nine years. He served on many other boards related to the timber and lumber industries. In his retirement years, John and Ruth were avid world travelers, having visited 67 countries on five continents. He cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Myrtle Ruth Jones; his son, Jeffrey Jones of Malvern; his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Scott Gray of Bryant; his two beloved grandchildren, Alison and Carson Gray of Bryant; four sisters, Patsy and her husband R.L. Adams of Cabot, Sandra and her husband Laverne Green of Fordyce, Joy Lynn Jones of Malvern and Edna and her husband Lewis Jordan of Fordyce. Visitation will be Friday, April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Regency Funeral Home in Malvern. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. at Regency Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in Tulip Cemetery under the direction of Regency Funeral Home with graveside services officiated by Bro. Grandberry. Pallbearers will be Gary Green, Jim Jones, Charles Keen, Charles Lea, Billy Clyde Rhodes, and Randall Rogers. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Sayyadul Siddiqui, Dr. Raghu Reddy and Dr. Frank Michael Bauer. Arrangements are by Regency Funeral Home. You may sign the guest book at regencyfuneralhome.com.
