Ross C. Cox, age 85, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016. He was born August 21, 1930 in Sciotoville, Ohio. After his father died in 1934, he was raised in the Masonic Home for Widows and Orphans with his sisters in Louisville, Kentucky from the age of five until the 10th grade. He graduated from high school in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. He immediately joined the Air Force and served his country for twenty years, retiring as a Major. He flew all over the world and in the Korean War. Subsequently, he was hired at Fireman's Fund and retired after 25 years. His love for his country and patriotic spirit was only overshadowed by his love for God. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. He always had a flying story and a love for flying in his eyes. He flew around the world, now he soars with the angels. Ross loved his family, church, country and above all God. He was a great provider and caretaker. He sacrificed many times for the needs of his family. We all loved you and you will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Irene Holbrook, father Ross Cox, step-father, Woodrow Holbrook, his wife, Nancy Nell Lawrence-Cox, daughter Nancy Cox, and two sisters, Pauline Horn and Jean Parsons. He is survived by his sister Arlene Sparks, his daughter Kathy Cox and her sons, Mark and Phillip Pemberton, his son Ross C. Cox and his daughter Jamie Cox, numerous cousins and other family members. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville. Interment will follow in Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock with military honors. Arrangements by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home & Crematory (501) 982-2136.
