Rev. Carl E. Wright, 85, of Benton, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016. He was born July 5, 1931 to Talmadge and Mary Susie Wright of Benton. Carl was the youngest of six children. He was retired from Alcoa and Ashby Funeral Home. Carl was a Baptist minister for 50 years and served at several churches in Saline and Grant Counties. He retired from New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church after 28 plus years. During this time, he led many souls to Christ. While there, he built the membership up and helped lead a building program that built a large new church. When he left this church, it was debt free. As a young person, he dreamed of playing professional baseball. On 1951, he signed a contact with the St. Louis Browns and later received a shoulder injury that ended his baseball career. Carl was preceded in death his parents; two sisters, Ruth Farchman and Agnes Elliott; and three brothers: Ray Wright, Nolan Wright Talmadge Wright Jr. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Allene Gould Wright; three daughters: Judy Sheridan Young (Robert), Carla Graham (Brett) and Janet Treadaway Brazil (Darrell); five grandchildren: Bryan Sheridan (Tara), Matthew Sheridan, Brad Treadaway, Christopher Graham and Sarah Young; four great-grandchildren: Austin, Joshua, Kailee and Macey Sheridan; four step-grandchildren: Danielle Brazil, Brandon Brazil (Mandy), Kassie Crook, and Shaila White; and special friend, Caitlan Spoon. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Ashby Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Pine Crest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital or Saline Memorial Hospice House.
