Sue Ward Pratt

Mrs. Sue (Ward) Pratt of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at her home, at the age of 89. She was born May 14, 1927 in Prescott, Arkansas, the only child of Homer and Velma (Turner) Ward. Mrs. Pratt graduated from Prescott High School at the age of 16, and attended the University of Arkansas, majoring in Chemistry and German until she met the love of her life, Bill Pratt. The couple was married at Prescott on February 28, 1947. They made their home in Newport, where during their 67 years together, they were an integral part of the community and church, raised two daughters, and enjoyed their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. Mrs. Pratt was an accomplished saxophone player, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing bridge with her friends. She was a member of PEO Chapter R, and Pi Phi Sorority. Mrs. Pratt was the rock of her family, supporting her husband in all his business endeavors, and raising her children with love. She was a true southern lady, who possessed a gentle, loving demeanor. Mrs. Pratt was an active, devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Newport. She loved her church and the people in it. Mrs. Pratt was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bill Pratt; her parents; a grandson, Capron Pratt Meyers; and her son-in-law, Charles "Scooter" Coe. She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Pratt Gilliam of Rancho Mirage, California, and Jan Pratt Coe of Newport, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Christi Sink of Newport, and John "Bubba" Sink and wife, Alison of Newport; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Taryn Sink; nephews and niece, Rick Pratt and wife, Melanie, Jon Pratt, and Angie Pratt; and a lifetime of friends. Special care was provided for Mrs. Pratt by Karen Metzger, Gail Clinkscales, Virginia Burns, Thelma Clemons, Bessie Western, Kay Cason, Anna Bowen, and Bren Rice. Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday, 5-6 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Sigman officiating. Interment will follow in Watson Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Bubba Sink, Rick Pratt, Jon Pratt, David Burgess, Marvin Hare, and Richard Carraway. Honorary pallbearers are Wesley Sink, Trey Hare, Ed Scoggins, Dr. John Wright, John Conner, Sr., Linn Garner, Marvin Thaxton, and Harold Norman.
