Martha spent most of her life in Birmingham, Alabama, graduating from Woodlawn High School in 1940. She married Bill Dollar while he was serving in the US Army. After World War II, they made their home in Birmingham, raising a family, actively participating in the community and their church. Martha was primarily a homemaker but at various times worked as a bookkeeper, receptionist and bridal consultant. She devoted much time to the United Methodist Women at Canterbury United Methodist Church supporting the group's mission work through meaningful projects and in particular the annual Fiesta Bazaar. In their retirement years, Martha and Bill moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas to devote themselves to their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed playing golf, and wintering in Florida. After Bill's death in 2008, Martha lived in Little Rock to be near her daughter Sarah Elaine. She became a member of St.Paul's United Methodist Church when her grandson Brooks was confirmed. Martha had an eye for beauty that was evident in her personal style, decorative and artistic projects such as sewing and painting. She was gregarious, a lively storyteller and full of laughter and wit. Most of all Martha was a loving spouse, mother and grandmother whose ultimate joy was spending time with her family. Her loving lively spirit will be greatly missed by her extended family. Members of our fraternal and maternal family are saying goodbye to its last representative of the Greatest Generation. The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff at Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation facility for the outstanding care and love Martha received during her declining years.
