AL RUTHERFORD, 71, of North Little Rock, rejoiced to meet His Lord and Savior face to face on Aug. 6, 2016. He was born Feb. 6, 1945 in North Little Rock to Keith and Mary Rutherford. One of five kids, he grew up on Arkansas Avenue. He graduated from North Little Rock High School, and later from UALR. He taught Biology and Chemistry at North Little Rock High School before moving on to a career in trucking operations which he loved. He started dating the love of his life, Diane Rutherford when they were fourteen years old and later married her in 1968. They celebrated their 48 year anniversary on July 20, 2016. He loved taking care of their horses, dogs, ponds and fish. But more than that he loved people. He never met a stranger and loved spending time investing in people. He also enjoyed his basketball buddies and their 30 year friendships. Al made many good choices in his life but the best came at 65 years old when he chose Jesus to be His Lord and Savior. He lived out the last six years of his life as a prayer warrior and shared his testimony of what Jesus had done for him with all he came in contact with. He loved God's Word, serving Him and the people at That Church where he was very involved and loved. He wanted you to know that because of his choice of Jesus, he is living it up in heaven today. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Mary (Pratt) Rutherford; his brother, William (Bill) Keith Rutherford; a nephew, Jay Rutherford and a niece Rachel Rutherford. He is survived by his wife, Diane Rutherford, of 48 years; daughter, Stacey Harness and her husband, Scott; three grandchildren, Kendall, Faith and Hope Harness; three siblings, Kay and her husband, Bob Squires; a brother, Gabe Rutherford; Ellen and her husband Harry King and a host of nieces and nephews and great friends. The service to celebrate Al's life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at That Church, 901 East Kiehl Avenue, Sherwood. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to That Church. Online obituary and guest registry at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
