Carl Gene Hillis, age 75, of Houston, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 27, 2016, peacefully at his home with his wife Gail by his side. Carl was a native of Perry County. He was born August 12, 1941, in Houston, Ark., a son of the late Earl Edward Hillis and Mildred Lankford Hillis. He was an outdoorsman, cattle farmer, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. His family whom he loved dearly, held the key to his heart. His greatest enjoyment was watching his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 32 wonderful years, Gail Parker Hillis of Houston; daughters, Marti Wilson (Rick) of Maumelle, Jamie Bean of Perryville, and Kristy Nutt of Bigelow; son, Tim Hillis of Greenbrier; his only brother, Mack Hillis of Houston; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, and a multitude of friends. Carl retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Lonoke Baptist Church near Morrilton, and served 47 years with the Perry County Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol Division. He was also a member of the Perry County Cattleman's Association for many years, and Perry County Riding Club. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Harris Funeral Home in Morrilton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church near Morrilton with Pastor Craig Duncan officiating. Burial will be at May Cemetery near Houston.
