Bertie Shimek

Bertie Shimek, 98, of Bald Knob, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Crossing at Riverside. She was born December 23, 1917 in Bald Knob a daughter of the late J.S. and Kate Hood McDonald. Mrs. Shimek was a school teacher for nearly 40 years and taught in the Searcy, Bradford and Bald Knob School Districts. She was a faithful Christian and a long-time member of the Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She is survived by her son, Bill Shimek; two sisters, Kate and Freddie; grandson, Kyle Shimek (Becky); two great-grandchildren, Annie Kate Shimek and Andrew Turner Shimek. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.T. Shimek and numerous siblings. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery by Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob – Judsonia. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
