Wesley Donald Smith, 89, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away November 29, 2016. He was born February 21, 1927, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Frank Wesley and Pearl Ellen (Rumel) Smith. Wesley was a resident of Hot Springs Village for over 25 years and was often seen on the ballroom dance floor or behind a piano playing his favorite jazz music. He was a big fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and the Arkansas Razorbacks and loved to spend his days on the golf course. Wesley was passionate about his daughter, grandchildren, and entire family and his companion Susan O'Neill. Wesley served in WWII in the Army Air Corps in Germany. Wesley graduated from Iowa State University and was a County Engineer in Webster City, Iowa for most of his working career. He was awarded the National Rural County Engineer of the year Award in 1988. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, and his second wife Evelyn "Ginger" Nordstrom Smith. Survivors include his significant other, Susan O'Neill; daughter, Kellie Peterson (Tim) of Iowa; sisters, Kay Croshaw of Hot Springs Village, Shirley Scheel of Montana, Vivian Toczek of South Dakota; grandchild, Wesley Peterson (Ashley) of Nebraska; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Lucy Peterson of Nebraska; and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Wesley's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village with Father Bill Elser officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Hot Springs. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
