Zara Lee "Bud" Thomas, age 93, a longtime resident of Fayetteville went home to be with his Heavenly Father on December 6, 2016. He was born February 5, 1923, in Wheeler, Arkansas. He was one of five children born to Johnnie and Elva Hulse Thomas. Zara was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 64 years, Mary Carolyn Crouch Thomas. Zara was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a decorated World War II veteran attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the thick battles of New Guinea in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. Zara retired after a 36 year career with the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He lived his life with integrity and bravery. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and kindhearted to everyone he met. He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Lee Moulton; two sons, Michael Joe Thomas and wife Susan and Jerry Dale Thomas and Linda all of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, David Patterson and wife Kitty, LeeAnn Patterson, John Moulton and wife Siena, Mark Thomas, Hannah Thomas, Katy Dupont and her husband Seth and five great-grandchildren, Emma Dupont, Baylor Dupont, Mckenzie Thomas, Dixie Moulton and Linley Glenn. Visitation will be 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016, at Moore's Chapel Funeral Home in Fayetteville. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Mt. Comfort Presbyterian Church at 3816 W Mt. Comfort Rd., Fayetteville, Ark. 72704, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Interment to follow at Mt. Comfort Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Comfort Cemetery Association, 3878 W. Mt. Comfort Road, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72704 or a Charity of your choice.
