On Saturday, December 17, 2016, the Honorable David B. Switzer of Hot Springs died at home in the loving arms of his wife, Patricia, following a long battle with cancer. David B. Switzer was born July 25, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois, to Lloyd Dee and Anita Patricia Switzer. He served as District Court Judge for Hot Springs and Garland County since 2009. Prior to becoming District Judge, Judge Switzer served nineteen years as Circuit Judge, serving in every division in the 18th Judicial Circuit - East: Circuit, Chancery and Probate, and Circuit/Chancery, Juvenile Division. He also served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, and Juvenile Judge and Master for Paternity, in Garland County. He maintained a private general practice beginning in 1976, following his graduation from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville School of Law, where he served on the Law Review, until 1991 when he assumed the bench. Prior to obtaining his Juris Doctor, Judge Switzer obtained a degree, with honors, from Southern Illinois University. His family was, above all, the most important thing in his life. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia, and three children, Michelle (Jason), Meredith (Paul), and Joseph (Brad), as well as five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth, Isabelle, Aleks, Bo, and Ana Blaise. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Sara Garner, and survived by six siblings, Martha Reynolds, Deena Hoerr, Theresa Switzer, George Switzer, Chris Switzer, and Sam Switzer, and other extended family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. A service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
