Charles D. Mathews

Charles D. Mathews, age 87, of Springdale, Ark., passed into Eternal Rest Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 in Circle of Life Hospice Center in Springdale. Mr. Mathews was born Aug. 20, 1928 in Harrison, Ark. to George and Stella Sharpenstein Mathews who preceded him in death. Charlie grew up in Fayetteville, Ark. and spent three years in the Army Air Force as a Radio Operator before returning to the UofA where he met his wife, Ruth Anne and started his family. The family lived in Springdale for three years before moving to Pine Bluff, where Charlie began his sales career. Charlie was a man of peace, who loved unconditionally with his whole being and he generously shared his magnificent voice which ministered to all who heard it. Charlie's wife, Ruth Anne; son, Danny and wife, Carla; daughter, Carla Ruth; grandchildren, Ashley and Jeff; great-grandchildren: Brianna, Danica, Duncan, Livi and Charlee, along with a multitude of friends cherish the memory of his gentle and loving spirit. We are indebted to the Circle of Life in Springdale for their care and love of Charlie, as well as our family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice. Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.: a celebration of his life is being held at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Gutensohn Road, Springdale, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home in Rogers.
