Elwayne Calloway, 94, of Fayetteville, passed from the Boundaries of this earth to the glories of God's heaven at his home on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016. He was born Nov. 18, 1921 in Gans, Okla., the son of Ed and Sophie Calloway. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and one daughter, Marion Vertrece Foraker. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Calloway of their home; one daughter, Brenda Wilks and her husband, Gary of Plano, Texas; one son, Paul Calloway and his wife, Angela of Fayetteville; three grandchildren: Brent Wilks, Brittany Wilks Hays, and Christi Herweck and five great-grandchildren. Elwayne grew up working hard to help his parents and family in Gans, Okla. Although he started school late, He excelled in the class room and was advanced grades. He was the first in his family to graduate from high school and would go on to earn a bachelors degree, two masters degrees, and his PhD Doctorate Degree. Dad had a passion for learning and an even greater passion for helping others and teaching. He was a coach, teacher, principal, school superintendent, and college professor in a career as an educator that spanned 38 years and touched the lives of thousands of young people. His love for his wife and his family knew no bounds, and he was happiest enjoying time with those he loved. In retirement, Elwayne had a special fondness for planning trips with Pauline, the love of his life, as they traveled the country and the world together. Their Florida condo at Maderia beach has served as the beautiful backdrop for many wonderful family vacations and memories. Elwayne's life of service to others included his time in the Army as a Combat Engineer in the European Theatre during World War II and 50 + years as a Lion, including his time as president of the Fayetteville Lions club. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at the chapel of Nelson Berna Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 at First Christian Church in Fayetteville.
