Al Schay, 78, of Little Rock, Arkansas died Friday, January 29, 2016 in the Little Rock Veterans Hospital Hospice. He was an army veteran, a retired attorney, former newsman and husband of Jeannie McCoy Schay for 46 years. Al was born April 10, 1937, in Little Rock to the late Earl and Edith Schay. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Edith; his brother, John Schay and grandson, Stewart Schay. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; mother-in-law, Anne McCoy of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his brother, Jim Schay of Little Rock; his sons; Steve Schay (Linda) of Hot Springs and David Schay (Molly) of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Haley Schay Arthur (BJ), Holden Schay, Stefan Schay, and Peyton Schay; great-grandchildren, Van Arthur, Beck Arthur, Heidi Arthur, and Maxie Rose Arthur and many other loving family and friends. Al recently retired after a legal career that included working on the Arkansas Attorney General's staff and head of the Oklahoma Appellate Public Defender Program, followed by years of practice in Little Rock. After serving in the Army, he graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri and worked as a reporter and editor for the Associated Press in Little Rock, New York City and Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also worked for KARK-TV in Little Rock while in law school, earning his degree from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (Bowen) School of Law. Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkanas 72211, (501) 224-8300. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County in memory of Al.
